2024 홍티아트센터 입주작가 릴레이 개인전 《버려진 땅은 우리의 놀이터가 되고》의 일곱 번째 전시, Cagla Zencirci & Guillaume Giovanetti 작가의 《Ghost and Found》 전시 안내드립니다.

Cagla Zencirci & Guillaume Giovanetti는 프랑스에서 온 작가 듀오로, 주로 영화 매체를 바탕으로 한 작업을 선보입니다. 둘은 현재 진행중인 영화 프로젝트, "Ghost & Found" 프로젝트를 홍티아트센터에서 전시의 형태로 선보입니다.

인간 존재의 태피스트리 속에서, 각각의 실타래는 이야기와 열망, 그리고 시간을 넘어서 울려 퍼지는 미스테리들로 엮여 있다. 과거를 밝혀내려는 여정은 마치 세이렌의 노래처럼 우리를 부르고, 우리의 본질을 호명한다. 이는 우리가 비롯된 뿌리를 이해하고, 우리보다 앞서 이 땅을 걸어간 이들에게 경의를 표하고자 하는 본능적인 열망이다.

발굴된 이름 하나하나, 발견된 사진 한 장 한 장은 우리를 이전 세대의 꿈, 투쟁 그리고 승리와 연결하는 다리 역할을 한다. 과거는 단순히 먼 역사 속, 먼지 아래 묻힌 한 페이지가 아니라, 생명과 사랑이 살아 숨쉬는 역동이 된다. 우리가 더 큰 이야기의 일부라는 사실은 우리에게 안정감을 준다. 그리스와 로마의 통치자들이 자신의 조상이 신이라는 걸 증명하기 위해, 가계도를 활용했던 것처럼 말이다.

이 작업은 이야기꾼인 우리에게 있어, 탐구하고자 하는 욕구를 불러일으키는 호기심의 영역이다. 또 인간 삶의 조각들을 하나하나 맞추어가고자 하는 열망에 관한 것이기도 하다. 우리는 문화, 전통과 유산으로 가득 찬 바다에 뛰어들며, 이로써 매순간 우리 존재를 새롭게 발견하게 된다.

우리는 단순히 선조들을 추적하거나, 지나간 이들의 그림자를 뒤쫓는 것이 아니다. 우리는 유골이나 빛바랜 사진을 찾는 것이 아니라, 시간이 지나도 여전히 남아 있는 영혼의 속삭임을 찾고자 하며, 그러함으로써 살아 있는 이들과 연결되는 힘을 느끼고자 한다.

우리는 이미 떠나간 이들에게 아무런 관심이 없다.

우리는 죽은 자들이 살아 있는 이들에게 어떤 영감을 주는지에만 관심이 있다 ...
유령(Ghosts)이 나타날 때, 산 자는 무엇을 발견(Found)하게 되는가.

In the tapestry of human existence, each thread is woven with stories, aspirations, and mysteries that echo through time. The quest to uncover the past calls to us like a siren song, pulling at the very essence of our being. It’s an innate yearning to connect, to understand the roots from which we sprouted, and to pay homage to those who walked the earth before us.

Each name unearthed, every photograph found, serves as a bridge linking us to the dreams, struggles, and victories of prior generations. The past becomes a living force, not merely inscribed in dusty pages of history, but pulsating with life and love. A profound reassurance that we are part of a larger narrative: Greek and Roman rulers used their lineage to prove that their ancestors were Gods.

For us, storytellers, it is about an elemental curiosity that ignites the desire to explore, a yearning to piece together fragments of human lives. We dive into a vast ocean of rich cultures, traditions, and heritage, each wave revealing something new about ourselves.

We are not mere ancestor-hunters, tracing shadows of those long departed. We seek not their bones or faded photographs, but the whispers of their spirits that linger through time, feeling their gentle push as we forge connections with the living.

We are not interested in the ones that passed away.

We are interested in what the dead inspire the living to do…
